Do you want straight teeth?
It’s possible with Invisalign!
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually straighten teeth as an alternative to traditional metal braces. The aligners are custom-made for each patient using a patented, virtually invisible plastic material. In as little as six-months, we can get you the smile you’ve always wanted.
How does Invisalign Work?
- Consultation & Plan: Your Dentist takes a detailed 3D digital scan or impressions of your teeth to create a precise treatment plan, which includes a virtual preview of your expected results (called a ClinCheck®).
- Custom Aligners: A series of unique, custom-made aligners are manufactured based on this plan.
- Wearing: You wear each set of aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day for one to two weeks, as directed by your doctor.
- Gradual Movement: Each aligner is slightly different and applies gentle, constant pressure to specific teeth to gradually shift them into the correct position.
- Check-ups: You will have regular check-ups (usually every 6-8 weeks) to monitor progress and receive your next sets of aligners.
- Retention: Once the treatment is complete, you will need to wear a retainer (such as a Vivera™ retainer) to keep your teeth in their new position and prevent them from shifting back.
What are the benefits of Invisalign?
- Aesthetics: The aligners are virtually invisible, making them a discreet option for you.
- Removable: They can be removed for eating, drinking anything other than water, brushing, and flossing, so there are no food restrictions and oral hygiene is easier to maintain.
- Comfort: Made from smooth, flexible plastic, they are generally more comfortable than traditional metal braces, which can cause irritation from wires and brackets.
- Predictable: Advanced 3D imaging technology allows for precise and predictable results, with many cases being completed in 6 to 18 months, depending on complexity

Frequently asked questions
Am I a suitable candidate for Invisalign?
Invisalign is suitable for a wide range of orthodontic cases, including crowding, spacing, overbite, underbite, crossbite and open bite. It works well for both mild and more complex tooth movements. Suitability depends on the nature and severity of the misalignment, the health of your teeth and gums, and your commitment to wearing the aligners as directed.
The best way to find out if Invisalign is right for you is to book a consultation — we will assess your teeth, discuss your goals, and let you know whether Invisalign or an alternative treatment would give you the best result.
How much does Invisalign cost at City Dental?
Invisalign treatment at City Dental is priced between £2,000 and £3,500, depending on the complexity of the case and the number of aligners required. Simpler cases involving minor tooth movement sit at the lower end of the range; more involved cases requiring significant repositioning of multiple teeth sit higher.
We provide a full written treatment plan and cost breakdown at your consultation before you make any commitment. Finance options are available — please ask us for details, or visit our fees page.
How long does Invisalign treatment take?
Treatment length varies depending on the complexity of your case. Minor corrections can be completed in as little as three to six months. More involved cases typically take between twelve and eighteen months.
The single most important factor in keeping treatment on track is wearing your aligners for the recommended 20 to 22 hours per day — patients who do this consistently tend to finish on time or ahead of schedule. We will give you a realistic treatment timeline at your consultation based on your specific case.
Is Invisalign painful?
Invisalign is not painful in the way that traditional braces can be, but it is normal to feel some pressure or mild discomfort for the first day or two after switching to a new set of aligners. This is a sign that the aligners are working — gently moving your teeth into their new position. The sensation usually settles within 48 hours.
Unlike fixed braces, there are no wires or brackets to cause irritation to the inside of your cheeks or lips. Over-the-counter pain relief is sufficient if needed, though most patients manage without it.
How does Invisalign compare to fixed braces?
Both Invisalign and fixed braces are effective orthodontic treatments, but they suit different patients and priorities. Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible, removable for eating and cleaning, and tend to be more comfortable day-to-day. They require strong patient commitment — aligners must be worn 20 to 22 hours per day to be effective, and they can be lost or damaged if not handled carefully.
Fixed braces work continuously without relying on patient compliance, can handle certain complex tooth movements more efficiently, and are often the preferred option for younger patients. For many adult patients seeking a discreet, flexible treatment, Invisalign is the better fit. We will discuss both options at your consultation and give you an honest recommendation based on your teeth and lifestyle.
What happens after Invisalign treatment — do I need a retainer?
Yes. Retainers are an essential part of orthodontic treatment and are not optional. Once your teeth have moved into their final positions, they need to be held there while the surrounding bone stabilises — without a retainer, teeth will naturally drift back towards their original position over time.
We provide retainers at the end of Invisalign treatment and will advise you on how long to wear them each day. Most patients move to night-time wear only after an initial period of full-time use. Retainers should be seen as a long-term commitment — the results of your treatment are worth protecting.
